On Friday the 25th of June, the BNG Bank Dance Prize 2021 was awarded in Parkstad Limburg Theaters during the opening of the international schrit_tmacher festival in Heerlen. This year, this important prize for outstanding choreography talent goes to PLAN-maker, dance and circus maker Piet Van Dycke (Tienen (B), 1996) for his duet On Point (2020) and to choreographer and dancer Dalton Jansen (Rotterdam, 1993) for his trio To the Edge 3 (2020), accompanied by Elten Kiene’s spoken word.
“Piet Van Dycke draws from both contemporary circus and dance in his work. This results in playful performances that stand out because of their original use of space, objects and bodies. He tackles his themes through the interaction between movement and acrobatics, creating images that energetically fold in different ways.”, said the jury. Both makers will receive the presentation of their works in thirteen theatres during the coming autumn season under the name DansClick23. This tour is equivalent to an amount of €50,000. The prize was presented by Jordy Clemens, Alderman for Culture at the Municipality of Heerlen, and Mat Meijs, Secretary BNG Cultuurfonds.
EXIT has been selected for the TheaterFestival 2023. For the jury, EXIT was the most thrilling circus performance seen in Flanders last season. It's not hard to understand why it also became a true hit among the general public: as the pace and music intensify, you find yourself on the edge of your seat. Wonder reigns, but it is never without purpose. This work genuinely piques our curiosity about what Van Dycke, as an 'up and coming' circus maker, has in store.
